VoD Talk

On May 21 2020 we organized VoD Talk, an online event where William F. Baker and Ron Bakker gave a presentation about their view on Digital vs Natural in the building industry. The event was livestreamed on our Youtube channel, and a great succes with over 600 views.

In case you missed it, here is a link to the video.

William F. Baker

William (Bill) is, among many other things, the engineer behind the core of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made structure on the planet. As a structural engineering partner at the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Bill has a lot of experience and has been awarded with many of the most prestigious prizes and medals that an engineer can earn.

Bill will talk about how he thinks nature should be implemented in the construction of high rise buildings as many of his works are inspired by shapes found throughout nature. In talking about this he will show the very interesting digital programs his firm has developed in order to accompany this.

“The single most important structural parameter in a tall building is the architecture”

Ron Bakker

Ron helped co-found PLP Architecture and brings his European sensibilities to a diverse range of projects across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

Recent key projects include The Edge, which was created as the world’s most sustainable office building and developed by OVG Real Estate for Deloitte in Amsterdam, and the redevelopment of an outdated 1960s building in Westminster, London that created a new bespoke headquarters for the luxury brand Burberry on behalf of Derwent.

He will talk about Timber in Highrise buildings, with PLP’s recent design of ‘Tree House’ in Rotterdam.
